Overview

El Loteria, nestled inside a gas station on 2615 Shallowford Rd in Atlanta, offers an authentic taste of Mexico with a story as rich as its flavors. This unassuming spot transforms what could be a quick convenience stop into a destination for those craving genuine Mexican cuisine made from scratch. The kitchen may be small, tucked in the back, but the food is anything but.

The menu shines with standout dishes like Tacos Con Huevos and Mojarra Frita. These dishes represent the heart of traditional Mexican fare—bold, simple, and fresh. Tacos here are generously filled with meats like Asada, Pollo, and Al Pastor, each bite juicy and layered with flavor. Patrons like Linda, who is half Mexican, attest to the authenticity and quality, noting these tacos rank among the best she has ever tasted across the U.S. and Mexico.

Beyond just food, El Loteria brings life back to a neighborhood once overlooked. The friendly staff, despite occasional language barriers, go out of their way to maintain a welcoming environment. The space might be modest, with limited parking, but it offers a genuine, warm experience that caters well to locals and Mexican cuisine enthusiasts. A glimpse of Latin American grocery products alongside the restaurant adds to its cultural authenticity, making it not just a place to eat, but a small community hub.

El Loteria is ideal for those seeking a flavorful, homemade meal reminiscent of Mexican home cooking. It appeals to food lovers willing to look past the unconventional setting and appreciate the effort and passion in every dish served. Whether you're stopping by for a quick taco or indulging in the crispy Mojarra Frita, this spot promises a satisfying, authentic experience that keeps guests coming back.

Delicious Mexican food made from scratch in this small kitchen in the back of a convenience store. Had the tacos de Asada and Pollo and will definitely be back.

Before El Lotería existed the building was abandoned and a place for homeless to hangout. It didn’t look good for the community. El Lotería has some of the best Mexican food near by. It’s fairly priced, the employees are kind, and the food is soo good. I’m happy I’m able to support a local business. Beware not all the employees speak fluent English. I know a fair amount of Spanish, but not everyone does. Also the parking lot is kind of small so if your a bad driver park next door and walk over. Overall great place love the environment.

This place is inside a gas station so you know the food is going to be amazing and authentic…and it was! The owner was very polite and kind and the women were working hard making fresh food. The Al pastor and chicken tacos were so good, juicy and flavorful and the melon aqua fresca was a great touch on a hot day!

Ok I just gotta say... DANG their tacos are BOMB. I'm half Mexican and tried tacos from all over Mexico and the US and these are probably some of the best I've had. They're not stingy with the meat either. Perfecto! I will be back regularly!

This place is as authentic as you can get. Lots of Latin American grocery products on the shelves (i.e., brands and products hard to find in other grocery stores). The restaurant in the back is super good. They have a surprisingly robust menu. The food is prepared by hand. The portions are large and the food is very tasty. Above and beyond all this, all of the staff were friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back.

Taco Veloz is one of the best Taco joints in Atlanta and was my favorite until this place. Their tacos are so flavorful and they use decent meat. So often I get tacos full of fat and gristle but not here, there's very little fat and the meat is tender. The sauces that accompany them are very good. The sauce consistency can change probably based on who makes them that day but they still have lots of flavor. Since it's like a Bodega there's not a lot of atmosphere if you decide to eat in, but with good food it doesn't matter. There's usually one guy or one woman at the grill, both cook equally as well. If they have a large order ahead of yours you'll have to wait but they take call-in orders so that's been very helpful. The staff is always very friendly and even with a slight language barrier you can figure it out. Parking can be tricky as it's a very small lot, I find I have to drive around back to turn around and get out. You can also park at the Shell station and just walk up the stairs. So far the tacos are the only item I've tried but I definitely look forward to trying others on the menu! You won't be disappointed!!

I walked past this place every day to go to the gas station and it smelled amazing so one day I had to go in and try it. They called me just to let me know when they had my favorite drink they make (horchata) the sweetest little girl Alison was so helpful and they’re all just amazing staff and really good authentic food.

I'm very happy, all the food is very tasty, the staff is very friendly, the place is very clean and visited many places nearby and believe me, this one is very good. I dare to say the most delicious barbecue tacos I've tried, I highly recommend you.
